Justin Ibbett

I make large abstract paintings using acrylic paint. This has come from my interest in cinema and theatre – the idea of getting lost in the work – being part of the work. I like to manipulate liquid paint and develop different processes of applying this to a surface.

I see the action of painting as an event over a period of time which can be seen in the marks that are left behind. It is important to me, as an artist, that the paint has space to create patterns – some of which can be seen in nature. I use a set of flexible rules to guide me through this process of painting.

I enjoy the aspect of making and discovering different colour combinations, while producing something interesting for everyone to look at.
