Dan Ponting

As a photographer I am interested in the ways in which an image can give you information about a narrative or an event. For me this need not be specific, ambiguity is interesting, but allowing enough details for the creation of some new story or set of characters is what I have sought to do in my work. I also work exclusively with myself as the model, thus creating a surreal juxtaposition which questions the reality of the image. For if photography is a means for the representation of reality, what happens when the reality that the image presents never took place? I work to create layers of staged realities that are at times highly theatrical and that spring forth from a wide range of inspiration, from classical paintings to contemporary cinema.
