Georgia Flowers

I am a figurative painter, inspired by the versatility of the form of the human figure, and using this form to create tension and ambiguity within an environment. I’m inspired by the juxtaposition of the gestural nature of the figure coupled with very varied markmaking; often geometric shapes to represent the background.
I enjoy painting nude figures, and through my painting style I aim to be expressive through my painterly marks; for me paint is a tool to create an intense mood within the boxed-in, intimate environment of a flat plane. Throughout this year I’ve explored windows as a meaningful context for figures to be coupled with in a painting, a setting that aesthetically provides the opportunity to use the varied mark making in order to create a composition I desire, as well as provide a hint to the world outside of the intimate environment of the nude figures.
This has developed into a wider variation of figurative work, studying from spontaneous snapshots of family photographs, and clothed figures, where I have been inspired by the composition of the image and created paintings that put the image in a new light. I am interested in narrative painting as well as the more posed, nudes I have explored, but always continuing to be driven around the combination of the figure with the geometric shapes that surround them.
